Paspaley is Australian owned and headquartered in Darwin, Australia.
Paspaley commits to regulatory reporting and voluntarily seeks independent third-party certification of its products to provide transparency to its customers and the market. Paspaley adheres to responsible sourcing guidelines and standards throughout the European Union, the United States and Australia. By maintaining compliance across these regions, Paspaley demonstrates its ongoing commitment to ethical practices within its operations.
Paspaley recognises its responsibility in addressing key sustainability challenges in a rapidly evolving world. We are committed to identifying and understanding current and anticipated environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities across our value chain, while acting responsibly, ethically and transparently in all business transactions.
Paspaley adopts the definition of sustainability from the 1987 Brundtland Commission Report, recognising the need for a respectful partnership with the natural environment, where healthy, functioning ecosystems fundamentally enhance economic performance and long-term business resilience. An environmental, social, and governance (ESG) framework underpins sustainability and informs business decision-making across both direct operations and the supply chain through a holistic, systematic approach.
The Environment
Paspaley actively works to minimise environmental impacts and manage risk across its direct operations and supply chain. This includes identifying, understanding and addressing the current and emerging environmental challenges and opportunities associated with climate change and biodiversity loss.
Pearl Stewardship
Pearl Stewardship is Paspaley’s six-year sustainability roadmap, designed to give customers confidence that its pearls, mother-of-pearl and pearl meat are sourced responsibly through evidence-based reporting, transparency and compliance, while reducing ESG risk across the supply chain. This approach strengthens Paspaley’s position as the preferred supplier of pearls as an alternative to precious stones in the fine jewellery sector.
Governance
Paspaley's commitment to sustainability extends beyond compliance through a set of values, guiding principles and behaviours that underpin its day-to-day activities and operations. It promotes transparency to customers, stakeholders, and personnel regarding Paspaley's framework of internal systems, practices, and procedures, viewed as fundamental to ESG performance and to being a responsible pearl steward.
This commitment includes pursuing independent third-party evaluation of all pearls, mother-of-pearl and pearl meat from the Marine Stewardship Council (certificate number MSC-F-30005), contributing to the development of global pearl standards as an active member of the Confédération Internationale de la Bijouterie, Joaillerie, Orfèvrerie des Diamants, Perles et Pierres (CIBJO, translated into English as The World Jewellery Confederation), and participating as a Partner Member of the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030

Paspaley Joins the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030
April 17, 2026
Paspaley has become a Partner Member of the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030 (WJI 2030), a cross-industry platform established to drive systemic, measurable progress across the global watch and jewellery value chain.
WJI 2030 was founded in 2022 by Kering and Cartier in response to a shared conviction: that meaningful change in the industry requires collective action, not isolated effort. The platform advances work across three interconnected pillars — climate resilience, resource stewardship, and inclusive value chains — and is formally aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Women's Empowerment Principles. It holds recognition as an Association of Public Utility under Swiss law.
As a WJI 2030 member, Paspaley joins a growing coalition of industry leaders committed to advancing shared sustainability standards. Membership provides access to the initiative's toolkits, benchmarking reports, and collaborative frameworks, enabling Paspaley to align its practices with emerging best-in-class approaches across climate action, biodiversity loss, responsible sourcing, and supply chain inclusiveness. Progress will be reported transparently as the work advances.
Paspaley's membership in WJI 2030 reflects a considered commitment to the long-term standards now expected of responsible luxury businesses. The initiative's scalable frameworks and open-source methodology provide a credible structure through which Paspaley will pursue measurable improvement — in emissions reduction, resource stewardship, and equitable value chain practices — in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
Paspaley Launches Pearl Stewardship Sustainability Strategy 2024–2030
November 02, 2024
Paspaley has launched its Pearl Stewardship Sustainability Strategy 2024–2030, establishing a formal roadmap for the company's environmental, social, and governance commitments across the next six years.
Drawing on nearly a century of pearling heritage, the strategy is structured around three pillars — Marine Stewardship, Our Community, and Conduct, Compliance & Responsibility — each reflecting the operational realities and long-term obligations of a vertically integrated pearling business.
Marine Stewardship
This pillar reflects the respectful relationship Paspaley has with the remote coastal waters of northern Australia, specifically, the natural processes and ecosystems that support the Australian Pinctada maxima pearl oyster. Paspaley is independently certified by the Marine Stewardship Council Fisheries Standard MSC-F-30005. Marine Stewardship outlines Paspaley's commitment to measurable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, active protection of natural capital, and continued investment in research and innovation. Reducing waste and addressing marine debris across operations remains a standing priority.
Our Community
As a vertically integrated pearling company with lineage in Australia's original natural pearl industry, Paspaley holds a distinctive responsibility to the communities connected to its work. The strategy formalises commitments to responsible sourcing, human rights standards, and inclusive employment — alongside sustained partnerships with Traditional Owner communities and industry bodies that underpin the long-term viability of the global pearl economy.
Conduct, Compliance & Responsibility
The strategy is grounded in rigorous governance and full compliance with relevant legislation. Paspaley is committed to transparent, evidence-based reporting and to educating stakeholders on the relationship between responsible practice and the enduring value of Australian South Sea pearls.
Paspaley and Dambimagari - Cleaning Up Marine Debris
December 19, 2025
For decades, Paspaley Pearling Company (PPCo) has actively cleaned up marine debris surrounding its Western Australia and Northern Territory operations. Often termed flotsam and jetsam, much of this marine debris is due to the natural movement of ocean currents, coupled with storms that are powerful enough to dislodge small sized land-based and ocean infrastructure.
The majority of collected marine debris is recycled, with anything left over disposed of responsibly. Over the past few years, there has been an increase in macro and microplastics resulting from ocean currents moving down from South East Asia. Aware of the issues plastic causes to the natural environment, PPCo staff across all Pearl Farms incorporate the collection of any floating or washed up plastics into their daily operational tasks.
Over the past few years, PPCo staff at Kuri Bay have teamed up with Dambimangari Aboriginal Rangers to conduct clean-up events in and around Kuri Bay. To date, these clean up days have collected over 700kg of marine debris. All collected items are responsibly recycled or disposed.
Marine debris clean-up is a key objective of Paspaley's Pearl Stewardship Sustainability Strategy.
